Discover Skateboarding: City Skate Summer Camp

Join the area’s only Certified Skateboard Instructor and Mentor, “D’Beau” Darin Black, for an immersive 5-day introduction. This program covers the fundamentals, language, and safe practice of skateboarding.

We hold these sessions at Optimist Skatepark. Students (ages 8+) discover skateboarding in a safe, judgement-free, and professional environment. Whether you are stepping on a board for the first time or simply want to solidify your mechanics, this program provides your ultimate starting point.

The “Safety & Longevity” Curriculum

Skateboarding requires discipline. Therefore, it cannot be mastered in a single week. Our mission is to provide you with a rock-solid foundation for a lifetime of riding. This camp explicitly covers:

• The Language of Skating: First, you will learn the unique vocabulary of the sport. We explore skateboarding’s surfing roots to explain our movements. We explain “Goofy vs. Regular” and “Frontside vs. Backside” mechanics clearly.

• The Fundamentals: Our curriculum focuses on the ‘Core Six’ foundations. Students will master the push, coast, carve (turn), tic-tacs , using the tail of the skateboard to do flat-ground 180’s and stopping.

• Proper Warm-ups: We focus on proprioceptor warm up techniques that create stability, mobility, balance and speed

• Safety Architecture: Furthermore, we prioritize injury prevention. Students will learn to fall correctly and “bail” safely. This ensures they can keep riding for years to come.

• Park Etiquette: Finally, students will learn the “unwritten rules” of the skatepark. We teach students how to navigate the park and respect other riders’ lines. You will also understand exactly where to stand when you are not in motion.

Professional Gear Included

To ensure a successful start, Deckadence Board Shoppe provides all necessary equipment. We include these professional-grade setups at no additional cost:

• Properly sized, high-performance skateboards.

• Safety helmets and full pad sets.

• Additionally, we welcome students to bring their own gear for a professional safety inspection.

Schedule & Enrollment

• Duration: Monday – Friday (5 Days).

• Time: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM.

• Location: Optimist Skatepark (Reserved during session).

• Capacity: Strictly capped at 12 students (Ages 8 and up).

• Skill Level: This is perfect for those with zero experience.

  • Is this camp right for me? If you already push, coast, carve, tic-tac, kick-turn and stop comfortably, please view our Intermediate Session instead.

Important Policy Notes

Registration Policy: This high-performance camp requires a minimum of 6 riders to establish proper group training dynamics. Registration is entirely risk-free. If the minimum threshold is not met by July 1st, parents will be notified and given the option of a full 100% refund or direct credit toward private or group instruction.

• Professional Certification: The area’s only multi-certified skateboard instructor leads all instruction.

• Waiver: We require a signed liability waiver for all participants.

• Safety: Students must wear full safety gear at all times.

• Commitment & Refunds: Registration holds a specific spot in our 12-student cap. Consequently, we do not offer refunds, “make-up” credits, or prorated reimbursements for missed sessions or cancellations. Your registration fee secures a place that we cannot offer to other students.
